Liverpool appoints a new sporting director 

Liverpool FC has appointed Jorg Schmadtke as its new sporting director, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday the appointment of Jorg Schmadtke as the club's new sporting director, to replace Julian Ward, who has worked in the position for more than 10 years. The 59-year-old German spent over four years in the same role with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg before leaving at the start of 2023. Liverpool has given Schmadtke a warm welcome to the club, while also thanking Ward for his contribution over the past decade. "Firstly, I would like to welcome Jorg to Liverpool Football Club in the knowledge that he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into a role in which such qualities can only be beneficial both to him and us," said the statement. We wish Julian and his young family the very best for the future and thank him for everything he has done for Liverpool FC during the past 11 years." Liverpool finished the current season in the English Premier League in fifth place and therefore will miss the Champions League competitions next season.
