Tottenham players to refund fans after 'embarrassing' EPL defeat!

Tottenham players, fifth in the Premier League, offered to compensate the club's fans for the price of tickets for their match against Newcastle, during which they fell 1-6, and made a public apology on Tuesday. Some 3,000 Tottenham supporters who travelled to Newcastle will have their tickets refunded by the players. The 6-1 defeat was Spurs' biggest league hammering since 2013. Stand-in coach Cristian Stellini was sacked after the defeat. Newcastle emphatically dented Spurs' vanishingly small top-four chances by taking a 5-0 lead inside 21 minutes, as stand in coach Cristian Stellini paid for experimenting with a back four with his job. The eventual 6-1 thrashing was so bad that Spurs' players have offered to reimburse the 3,000 travelling supporters the cost of their match ticket. "As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger," Spurs' players said in a statement. "It wasn't good enough. We know words aren't enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts. "We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind, we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James' Park. "We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us." Tottenham ranks fifth in the league with 53 points, 6 points behind Manchester United, which finished fourth, qualifying for the Champions League. It seems that Sunday's defeat dashed the team's hopes of showing up in the European competition, with six stages remaining until the end of the EPL season.
