Haaland withdraws from the Norway squad prior to the Euro 2024 qualifiers

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has withdrawn from the Norway squad ahead of their opening Euro 2024 qualifiers in Germany because of an injury. Haaland is out for at least one week due to a groin injury he sustained during their 6-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Haaland was set to play for Norway in their two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Spain and Georgia but has returned to Manchester in a bid to get back to full fitness ahead of City’s match against Liverpool. Haaland has already left Norway camp due to injury and confirmed his absence from the matches between Spain and Georgia at the start of the 2024 European Nations Cup qualifiers. "Erling Braut Haaland had some pain in his groin after the match against Burnley," read a statement from Norway. "We hoped that this was just a familiarity that would carry over to Saturday, but after doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it to the games against Spain and Georgia. "It is better that he receives medical follow-up at the club, says national team doctor Ola Sand. Haaland thus travels home from the national team meeting.” The prolific Manchester City striker is suffering from pain in his groin following Saturday’s FA Cup win over Burnley and has returned home from the national team camp, the Norwegian Football Federation has announced. Haaland had succeeded in scoring 8 goals during his last two matches with City, as he scored 5 goals against the German team Leipzig in the European Champions League, in addition to 3 goals against Burnley in the FA Cup. The 22-year-old Haaland has scored 42 goals in 37 matches for City since joining Pep Guardiola’s side from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
