Allegri: After the game, we have feelings of regret, dissatisfaction, tomorrow we will have to react as a team

Massimiliano Allegri has given words of advice to both Moise Kean and Dusan Vlahovic, whilst providing an update on Angel Di Maria and Paul Pogba ahead of Juve’s upcoming Europa League fixture with SC Freiburg.  The Bianconeri coach also spoke of putting past results behind them at his customary pre-match press conference ahead of the first leg of the Round of 16 ties at the Allianz Stadium.  Juventus fell to a disheartening 1-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening, in which Kean was sent off in the 90th minute, 40 seconds after coming on as a sub.  On the unwanted loss against the Giallorossi, Allegri said: “After the match, it’s normal for there to be feelings of regret, dissatisfaction, and disappointment. I said after the game, when there are these situations of instability after a goal goes in, everything seems to fall apart. “Tomorrow we will have to react as a team. We have to win and not concede a goal.” Speaking about Kean’s dismissal for an unnecessary kick at Roma’s Gianluca Mancini, he added: “He knows that he made a mistake in Rome, he was the first to apologize. He will pay the fine that the club has given him but he is a Juventus player, an important player for us, who scores important goals.  “We have three months left in the season, everyone is needed regardless of the mistakes they make. He made one, he paid and he will come out of it more mature.”  Insistent that the team has put Sunday’s loss behind them, Allegri has warned against losing focus and hopes to avoid a similar result to their qualification round stalemate against Nantes in the first leg. The 55-year-old would like his team to give themselves an advantage by the time the second leg comes around.  “Tomorrow we want to lay the foundations for the second leg,” he said. “They are physically strong, they are fifth in Germany, and they are unbeaten in Europe. We have to go back to winning at home. “We’ll need to pay attention; otherwise we’ll have to do the same as against Nantes. We have to win tomorrow, whether it’s by one or two. It won’t be easy, it’ll be balanced, they’re physical, they score lots of goals, and we’ll need focus.” There were also words for Vlahovic, who has been linked with a move away from Turin in recent weeks.  Vlahovic has struggled to replicate the thunderous form he showed whilst with Fiorentina since his move to Juve in 2022, especially after hampering injury complaints.  Allegri said: “I’m happy with Vlahovic, but being a Juventus center-forward comes with different responsibilities. Dusan has grown, and he is growing, but like all players, there are moments when things go well and moments when things go less well. “He has played badly when he has scored and on Sunday he played a good match without scoring. Tomorrow, maybe everything will be seen differently from the outside.”
Ahead of the game against Freiburg, Allegri also issued an update on the fitness of both Pogba and Di Maria.  “Yesterday Pogba did a good workout, today he was rested, tomorrow morning we’ll know if he’s available. He didn’t work with the team today: I think he’s available but we’ll see.” “Angel is extraordinary but we win as a team. He’s fine physically, and he will start tomorrow. We’ll see during the game whether he can play until the end or not”.
