Manchester City's Haaland top scorer in one Premier League

Young Norwegian star Erling Haaland equalled a Manchester City record as the champions inflicted Arsenal's first home defeat of the season and leapfrogged their title rivals into top spot. Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland has equalled a club scoring record set by Sergio Aguero after finding the net in Wednesday's 3-1 Premier League victory over Arsenal. The Norwegian scored his 26th Premier League goal of the season, the joint-most by a Man City player in a single campaign in the competition, matching Sergio Aguero's tally from 2014/15.
Arsenal were dealt an injury blow before kick-off with midfield lynchpin Thomas Partey ruled out, while conversely City had good news with Haaland fit to start after an injury scare. Arsenal's young heads could have dropped but they hit back shortly before half-time. City goalkeeper Ederson fouled Eddie Nketiah, and Bukayo Saka converted the penalty, maintaining his 100 per cent record from the spot with four goals from four attempts. Haaland, who is at the top of the English Premier League scorer rankings in the current season 2022-2023, has a great opportunity to surpass the number registered in the name of Aguero, with 15 matches remaining for the team in the competition.

Most goals in a Premier League season came as follows:

Haaland - 26 goals in 22 matches

Aguero - 26 goals in 33 matches

Aguero - 24 goals in 30 games

Aguero - 23 goals in 34 games

Carlos Tevez - 23 goals in 35 matches
