Barcelona Confirms Busquets Injury Absence

FC Barcelona has confirmed the nature of the injury suffered by captain Sergio Busquets against Sevilla yesterday, Sunday, which has come as a huge blow to Xavi Hernandez's team. Busquets was carried off on a stretcher after just 5 minutes of Sunday's game at Ipurua following a challenge from Gonzalo Escalante. A statement from the Catalan club has now revealed the nature of the injury, although the club has not put a timeframe on his recovery. Local press reports claim he will be out of action for two weeks and he looks set to miss Thursday's Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Real Sociedad and Sunday's league trip to Real Betis. In turn, the Spanish newspaper "Marca" revealed that Busquets' will be absent for a period ranging from two to three weeks. Busquets may miss 5 matches with Barcelona, including two matches with Manchester United in the European League. Busquets may return again to Barcelona's matches against Real Madrid at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium in the first leg of the King's Cup semi-final on next March 2.
