Official: Barcelona confirms the nature of Dembele’s injury

Barcelona FC has issued an official statement confirming the nature of the injury sustained by Ousmane Dembele in the game against Girona earlier on Saturday evening, in the 19th round of La Liga. The Frenchman had to be taken off just 26 minutes into the game as he asked for a substitution after feeling something in his left thigh. While the exact nature of the injury was not known till now, reports had suggested that the winger would miss about 3-4 weeks of action, effectively ruling him out of the UEFA Europa League playoff first leg against Manchester United. Ousmane Dembele went off injured in Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Girona on Saturday. The forward hurt his quadriceps and is going to be out for around four weeks. After a race with Arnau Martínez, Dembélé stopped dead and asked for a change after quickly feeling discomfort in the affected part. The club does not specify a particular timeline for his recovery and just states that his return will be dictated by how the situation evolves. “Tests carried out this evening on first-team player Ousmane Dembélé have shown that he has an injury to the anterior rectus of his left thigh. It is low and the evolution will mark its availability,” the statement read. This is Dembele’s first injury at Barcelona since November 2021 and his first under the management of Xavi Hernandez. The French international was one of Barça’s most in-form players of late and his absence will be felt by the club, especially with tricky fixtures coming up against the likes of Real Betis, Sevilla, Villarreal, and Manchester United.
Barcelona tops the La Liga standings table with 47 points, 6 points ahead of runner-up Real Madrid with 41 points, while Girona ranks twelfth with 21 points.
