Scaloni chooses Messi over Maradona in Argentina hero debate

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni gave an interview to Radio Cadena Coupe, and Lionel Messi naturally became a topic of conversation. Argentina head coach Scaloni has had his say in the Messi vs Maradona debate. Fresh off of collecting the 2022 World Cup trophy, the country’s third, Scaloni has chosen Lionel Messi over Diego Maradona. “If I have to pick one, I'll pick Leo, with whom I have something special,” Scaloni told El Partizado de COPE when asked to try and separate the two. “He is the best in history, although Maradona was also great. Training Messi is not difficult. At a technical level, he cannot be corrected, but at times there is pressure or a way of attacking is explained to him. To press, steal balls and when there is blood, he is number one.” ” Scaloni told Spanish radio station Cope. During the radio interview, Scaloni also spoke about wanting to get on the same page with Messi when he was appointed head coach in 2018. The coach arrived at the Argentina national team at a contentious time. After all, they just suffered a disappointing 2018 World Cup in Russia and Messi was taking time away from the team. “The first thing we did was have a video call with Messi. He said he was honored and the first thing we said to him was ‘Come back. We’ll wait for you. That’s what we did and eight months later he came and found an incredible group,” Scaloni stated. Scaloni also highlighted an aspect of Messi's matches that is not sighted much, as he said: "I assure you that Messi is number one in pressing and snatching the ball.”
