Guardiola reacts after Man City’s League Cup exit: ” The Better team won!”
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that his team deserved to bid farewell to the English League Cup, as Southampton preyed upon several sloppy Manchester City players who don't often start in the Premier League but were deployed by Pep Guardiola in the name of squad rotation. The bottom team in the Premier League side produced a major upset by beating defending champion Manchester City 2-0 at St. Mary’s stadium and will now face Newcastle over two legs in a bid to reach the final. “The better team won. We didn’t play well; we didn’t play well in the beginning. There are many games you can start not good and overcome and we didn’t do it,” Guardiola said. “Today was a bad night, the opponent was better so we have to congratulate them. To win games you have to deserve it and tonight we didn’t deserve it.” He continued, "I have a feeling that the squad was not important. What is important is the performance. We were not ready to qualify for the semi-finals." Guardiola continued his remarks, saying, "If we play the same way in the Manchester derby against United, we will not have a chance."
