Deschamps to make a decision on France's future as head coach after World Cup final defeat

France coach Didier Deschamps will make a decision on his France future in the new year after overseeing Les Bleus' dramatic penalty shoot-out loss to Argentina in the World Cup final. The Argentine national team won the World Cup title for the third time in its history, at the expense of its French counterpart, with a penalty shootout 4-2, this evening, Sunday, in the final of the 22nd edition of the World Cup “Qatar 2022”, at Lusail Stadium. Deschamps said in a press statement after the match: “Congrats to Argentina and congratulations for achieving the World Cup trophy." He added, "The match was not easy for us. Some players were tired and injured. We came back with the result after we were 0-2 down. It hurts. It is very difficult to accept the loss." Deschamps, however, will take his time to weigh up whether to extend his 10-year stay with the two-time world champions. About his future with the France national team after losing the 2022 World Cup title, Deschamps said. "You're not first to ask. Even if we had won, I would not be able to answer that tonight," Deschamps said at his post-match press conference. "Of course, I am very sad for the players and staff, but I'll have a meeting with the [French Football Federation] president at the start of next year and then you'll find out."
Didier Deschamps has said he will meet with the French Football Federation before deciding on whether or not to continue managing the national team after their painful World Cup final defeat by Argentina on Sunday. France failed to successfully defend their World Cup title after being beaten on penalties in Sunday's final in Qatar. Les Bleus battled back from 2-0 down to force extra time, which ended 3-3. However, Argentina ran out 4-2 winners in the shootout, leaving Deschamps to admit he needs to think about his future and whether he will continue as manager. Deschamps has led France to back-to-back World Cup finals but his contract expired after the tournament in Qatar. President Emmanuel Macron has already called on the French FA to hand the manager a new deal but it seems Deschamps has yet to decide if he wants to continue in the role.
Messi succeeded in winning the award for the best player in the tournament, while Kylian Mbappe won the title of top scorer in the tournament with 8 goals.
