French star Ousmane Dembele gestured that it is fair for Argentine duperstar Lionel Messi to win the World Cup trophy, but not at the expense of his country.
France will play a heavy-caliber encounter against Argentina on Sunday, at Lusail Stadium, in the final match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
"We are playing for our country, it is fair that Messi wins the World Cup, but not against us," Dembele said in the press conference presentation held on Friday, adding, "We are calm and have more experience since the 2018 World Cup."
Dembele added, "The match will witness football ferocity, and in football it must be enthusiastic and ferocious. We hope to play well and outperform them on the field."
Sunday’s match promises to be quite the occasion with the fixture also seeing Messi come up alongside PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe.
The France striker is expected to take over the mantle of the world’s best player from Messi, but the Argentine has been proving at the tournament that he really still aspire to do their goal. The French star continued his remarks, saying, "Playing with Messi is a dream. He is a very humble ple and honest person who helps younger players. He taught me a lot. He is a very dangerous player and we will do everything possible against him."
He continued, "Messi is an exceptional player. I loved Barcelona because of Messi and Iniesta. I spent very good years with him. He helped me a lot when I arrived at Barcelona. Let's hope he doesn't play well, because he is very dangerous."
