Dump miserable Atletico out of Europe entirely after finishing last in the UCL group

In what was a dramatic day of action in the Champions League, Atletico Madrid was sent out of the Europe competition after defeating Porto. Diego Simeone's side was knocked out of the Champions League last week but a point against Porto would have secured them a place in the Europa League in the New Year.
Atletico finished last, failing even to qualify for the second-tier Europa League knockout round playoffs. Goals from Mehdi Taremi and Stephen Eustaquio helped Porto secure a 2-1 win at home to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday to finish top of Champions League Group B.
Opta statistics network, which provides data to football clubs, coaches, and leagues, reported that the Spanish giant Atlético de Madrid has finished bottom of a Champions League group stage for the first time in history, recording their second-worst total in this round of the competition (5 points ) after the 2009/10 campaign (3 points) Farewell.
Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone also became the most South American coach eliminated from the group stage of the Champions League 2017/18 and 2022/23 with Atlético Madrid), equal with Ricardo Gomez (1997/98) with Paris FC and 2006/07 season with Bordeaux.
