Milan racing against time to to extend Liao's contract before the World Cup Qatar — Report

Press reports revealed that the Italian AC Milan has set to begin talks with to extend the contract of its Portuguese midfielder Rafael Leao before the World Cup2022 Qatar, according to a report in the Italian media today. The Italian network, "Sky Sports" indicated that Milan hope to obtain the signature of Liao before the World Cup kick-off because the club is aware that any great performances in Qatar will increase his salary demands, making the extension of his contract more complicated. Sky added, that Leao currently earns less than 2 million euros per season, as Milan is said to be open to offering more than 7 million euros annually. But the bigger case concerns a fine of 19 million euros owed by Liao to his former club Sporting CP and the striker expects Milan to share it with Lille. The striker's contract expires in 2024, so the Rossoneri are aware that any failure to reach an agreement in the coming weeks or months will force them to sell Liao in the summer to avoid seeing him leave for nothing in 2024, like Gigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu, Frank Kessie and Alessio Romagnoli.
