Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is planning to attend the Ballon d'Or gala on Monday evening for the first time in five years, as his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema is the favorite to win the prestigious award. Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly attend the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2022 ceremony in Paris on Monday (October 16). As per Le Parisien, this is because he knows Karim Benzema is set to win the award. The duo shared a glittering partnership at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018. They won two La Liga trophies, four UEFA Champions League awards, and more during their time at the club. The Portuguese won four Ballon d'Or awards during that timespan. He, however, was unable to make the final 30 of the Ballon d'Or shortlist this season. The Manchester United striker missed the award ceremony in 2021 and France Football editor-in-chief Pascal Ferry launched a scathing attack on the Portuguese star, with Ferry stating that Ronaldo wants to retire with the most Ballon d'Or titles. He said at the time: "Ronaldo has only one ambition and that is to retire with more Ballon d'Or [awards] than Messi," Ferre told the New York Times. "I know because he has told me."
