Man United boss Ten Hag backs Ronaldo to hush critics
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be more confident to show his full shining before and during the upcoming clash with host Manchester City, in North London’s Derby, in the ninth round of the English Premier League. After losing their opening two games of the season, Ten Hag's United have won their last four Premier League matches, including wins against Liverpool and Arsenal. Ronaldo has occupied a place on the bench as in-form Marcus Rashford leads the line for United, but Ten Hag believes the Portuguese will show everyone his quality soon enough. In an interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag said, "I'm sure Ronaldo will come back because he spent his entire career scoring goals. I believe in his potential and I tell him I believe in the player and the person. I'm sure he does [still believe in himself]. I'm convinced he will fight back. I'm sure he will come back because he has spent his whole career scoring, and he will do it this year as well, and then I think then everyone will be silent." Ronaldo could start his first Premier League game in over seven weeks if Rashford and Anthony Martial failed to pass late fitness tests. But does Ten Hag believe he can deliver on Sunday? "Every confidence," he insists: "Yes, every confidence because of his profile and his personality is and, yes, he can deliver."
Ronaldo has scored just one goal this season, against Sheriff in the Europa League. He also struggled in the recent International break, failing to net in Portugal's games against the Czech Republic and Spain.
Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo has come under criticism from the media at home for his below-par performance on the pitch. Citing his poor run in the 2021-2022 season, the Portuguese press has demanded that Ronaldo be dropped from the team starting Earlier in September.
