Lewandowski makes champions league history scoring record against the Czech hat-trick in Plzen

New signing Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski continued his impressive scoring record with Barcelona by scoring a hat trick and leading the Catalan club to sweep Viktoria Plzen, the Czech Republic, 5-1, in the first round of the group stage of the Champions League for the current season 2022-2023. Robert Lewandowski (34 years and 17 days) became the oldest player to score in his first Champions League game for Barcelona, breaking Henrik Larsson's record against Celtic in September 2004 (32 years and 360 days). Lewandowski (Dortmund, Bayern, and Barcelona) is also the first player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League with three clubs, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo, Filippo Inzaghi, and Neymar, each of whom scored with two clubs.
Lewandowski now also becomes the third-highest goal-scorer in the history of the Champions League with 89 goals behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (141) and Lionel Messi (125), thereby also outshining Real Madrid star Karim Benzema who is placed 4th with 86 goals.
