Zidane and Pochettino are the top candidates to replace Tuchel as Chelsea manager
The Blues are on the lookout for a new head coach, after the dismissal of German coach Thomas Tuchel from his position today, Wednesday. But who will Zidane or Pochettino pick for his first managerial appointment? In a short statement posted to the club's official website, Chelsea thanked Tuchel for his efforts but said it was looking to move in a new direction. “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and Club World Cup in his time here.” Mauricio Pochettino, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and former German coach Joachim Low lead the favorites to replace Tuchel, with Brighton manager Graham Potter, and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers also rumored to be in the frame. A statement from the club read: “As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition." "Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach. "There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made."
Tuchel led the Blues team in 100 matches in all competitions, winning 60 matches, drawing 24, and losing 16 matches, and succeeded in winning several titles, most notably the European Champions League.
