Frenkie De Jong’s relationship with Barca is tense and likely has ‘broken down
Spanish press reports revealed a tense relationship between the Barcelona administration and Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, in light of the club's insistence on convincing the need to leave the team during the current summer transfer market, as the midfielder edges closer to a move to Manchester United. A report in Spanish media has described De Jong as feeling ‘disgusted’ by Barcelona’s treatment of him, having been told of the situation in a phone call with club officials. According to the Spanish "Mundo Deportivo" newspaper, De Jong is very angry with the Barcelona administration and believes that he is the victim of a planned media defamation campaign, as his lawyers contacted the International Federation of Professional Footballers "FIFpro" and the League of La Liga, to denounce the club's mistreatment of the Dutch player.
The newspaper added that the continuous talk on the part of club officials about the necessity of selling the player during the current summer Mercato, in order to reduce salaries to record the new deals concluded by the club, the player was psychologically injured despite his desire to stay. Barcelona signed De Jong from Ajax for £86million (75 million euros) in 2019 and he has since made almost 100 league appearances for the Catalan club.
