Ajax named on Wednesday Alfred Schreuder as their new coach to replace Erik ten Hag who will take charge of Manchester United next season, the club announced on Thursday. Alfred Schroeder signed a contract for two seasons with the option to add a third season, to continue with the team until 2024, to replace coach Ten Hag, who left to train Manchester United.
Schroeder returns as the first man on the technical staff of Ajax, after he worked as an assistant for Ten Hag from January 2018 until the summer of 2019, to contribute to the team's arrival in the Champions League semi-finals.
Schroeder joins Ajax from Club Brugge, where he won the Belgian league last season. Schroeder also worked as an assistant to former Ajax coach Ronald Koeman. The new manager said: "Becoming head coach at Ajax is an honor and a great opportunity for me. I am keen to seize it. I would like to win titles in Amsterdam with a team that plays attractive football. With a good balance between experienced top players and many great talents."
