Man United’s Nunez transfer broke down due to food poisoning!

In a heavy-caliber surprise, the English newspaper "The Athletic" revealed the reason why Manchester United's transfer move for Darwin Nunez was allegedly scuppered by food poisoning before Liverpool swooped for the star.
The Uruguay international was on the radar of many top clubs across Europe after scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese side last season but ended up in the Liverpool shirt with a €100m deal.
According to The Athletic, United was set to meet Benfica's president Rui Costa in April to discuss a potential deal. However, the meeting was called off after Costa and his family suffered food poisoning while celebrating his birthday.
The newspaper pointed out that after that, Costa and his family were poisoned while celebrating a birthday party for the Portuguese President, but Manchester United was not convinced by this matter and considered it a rejection.
Nunez left Benfica having scored 47 goals and 16 assists in 84 appearances for the Portuguese giants since arriving from Almeria for £21.6m in the summer of 2020.
