Haaland reveals why Man City transfer and Riyad Mahrez's role

Norwegian star Erling Haaland, the new Manchester City player, revealed why he preferred to move to the English Premier League champions despite other mouth-watering offers, as he signed a contract until June 2027 from Borussia Dortmund, despite the interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Erling Haaland is now confirmed as a Manchester City player and has revealed the role Riyad Mahrez played after the pair holidayed together last summer City won the race to sign the Norwegian forward, and he was finally unveiled on Monday with all formalities completed.
When asked why he chose to sign for City, Haaland said: “First of all, my father a little bit. I was born in England, I've been a City fan my whole life, I know a lot about the club.” “He (Alf-Inge) lived in England, he played for the club. Of course, a lot of things have changed in the last 20 years but he lived here, so he knows what it is.
"We've just been speaking about basically how it is, what the best is for me, what's this, what's that, and to try and find out everything. He's been a good dad in that thing there."
He added: “I think in the end, two things; I feel at home a bit here. Also, I think I can develop and get the best out of my game at City.”
When asked about the chance of playing under City boss Pep Guardiola, the striker said: “Yes, as I say, I think I can develop a lot under Pep (Guardiola) and at this club. I think I can get better on a lot of things, and hopefully I can score a lot of goals.” He added: “Yes, I've spoken a little bit with him and we both look forward to working together. I think it's a mix between a lot of things.”
When probed on discussions with City winger Mahrez, Haaland confessed: "Yes, he told me to come to City, so he was right about that. He talks, he said some good things about the club.".Riyad Mahrez urged Haaland to sign for Manchester City when the pair met on holiday last summer.
Haaland was linked with a transfer last year but opted to stay at Borussia Dortmund with a view to leaving this summer. Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 games in two and a half seasons with Borussia Dortmund and won the German Cup and the German Footballer of the Year award for the 2020/2021 season.
