Man United reportedly plot swoop for Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski

UK press reports revealed the latest transfer rumors as Man United reportedly plotted a swoop for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski, 33, has 12 months left to run on his agreement and is widely expected to leave the Bundesliga side this summer after eight goal-packed years at the club. Lewandowski scored 50 goals in 46 outings last season and his overall record for Bayern reads 344 goals in 372 appearances.
Chelsea has emerged on the radar, too, and would be able to offer Champions League football. According to The Daily Star, though, United should not be discounted from the race for his signature. However, according to the Daily Star, Manchester United is lining up a sensational move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski amid interest from Barcelona, according to reports.
The Red Devils are believed to have identified Nunez as a key target to bolster their targets this summer, but it is now alleged that the Uruguay international is now heading to Liverpool.
Barcelona is determined to sign Lewandowski in the current Mercato, but the Catalan club's financial problems may eventually lead to their exclusion from the deal, with La Liga president Javier Tebas recently claiming that Xavi's side cannot afford to pay the striker's salary at the Camp Nou.
"Barcelona today cannot sign him, Barcelona knows what they have to do, (Barcelona president Joan Laporta) fully knows our rules for economic control and his financial situation," Mundo Deportivo newspaper quoted Tebas as saying.
Bayern has reportedly refused to sell Lewandowski for less than £40m, which both Chelsea and Man United can afford, but fees would be a problem for Barcelona in the current climate.
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to stay at Manchester United this summer despite the speculation surrounding his future, while Marcus Rashford is also expected to be given the chance to prove himself to the club's new coach Eric ten Hag.
Lewandowski signed for Bayern in 2014 from German rivals Borussia Dortmund. As well as totting-up jaw-dropping Bundesliga numbers, he has also netted 75 goals in 130 games for Poland.
