Report: Man United is Close to Reaching an Agreement for De Jong

UK press reports unveiled that Manchester United is reportedly very close to reaching an agreement for the transfer of Frenkie De Jong this summer with United eager to complete a deal sooner rather than later according to a new report. The 25-year-old's future has been unknown over the past few weeks, despite the Blaugrana deal running until the summer of 2026. According to Spanish "Sport", Man United has now made progress in negotiations with Barcelona and is close to reaching an agreement, which could result in an €80m (£68.7m) payment for the Dutchman. The report adds that there is a "serious chance" that De Jong will end his three years with Barcelona in the coming weeks, and Man United does not expect any further hurdles in negotiations with Barcelona. Erik Ten Hag's plans at the squad have led to suggestions that the new Red Devils coach may try to reunite him with the player who oversaw his development during his highly successful tenure at Ajax.De Jong featured prominently on his way to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals with the Amsterdam giants, earning £77.4m to move to Catalonia in the summer of 2019.The midfielder has since scored 13 goals and 17 assists from 139 games for Barcelona, although his only Camp Nou title has so far been a 2020-21 Cup culmination.
Both Ronald Koeman and Xavi made De Jong a key player with Barca during the 2021-22 season, ending the elapsed season with four goals and five assists from 46 games.
