Vincent Kompany amid close links to vacant Burnley manager’s job

The former Manchester City captain has been strongly linked with the Clarets who were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday. The 36-year-old has been strongly linked with the Clarets for a number of weeks, with the interest apparently not dimming despite Burnley suffering relegation from the Premier League after their defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.
Kompany returned to his boyhood club Anderlecht in the summer of 2019, initially joining as player-manager before hanging up his boots in August 2020 to focus on his coaching career. He guided the club to third in the Belgian league this season.
Vincent Kompany, the former Anderlecht, and Manchester City player announced his retirement from professional football and was presented as Anderlecht's first-team manager in 2020 for 4 seasons.
The Belgian had previously decided to return to his Anderlecht team after he finished his career with Manchester City at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
