CAF Sanctions Wydad of Casablanca for Conduct of Fans
Officials of Wydad of Casablanca (WAC) received a shock during the past hours, for the conduct of their supporters in the stands match against its Angolan counterpart Petro Atletico, in the second leg of the semi-finals of the African Champions League.
According to the Moroccan "Al-Botula" website, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to impose sanctions on Wydad by reducing the crowd attendance for its next match against Petro Atlético to 30,000 instead of 65,000.
The Moroccan website confirmed that Wydad will receive this punishment due to fan riots in the Algerian youth match Belouizdad, in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final.
The Moroccan website stressed that the African Union threatened Wydad to increase the penalty in the future if any riots were repeated.
Morocco's Wydad is close to qualifying for the African Champions League final, especially after their decisive victory over Petro Atletico away 3-1 in the first leg of the semi-finals.
Wydad will face Al-Ahly of Egypt in the final match, as Al-Ahly is also close to reaching the final after crushing ES Setif 4-0 in the first leg of the semi-final that was held in Cairo.
