Douglas Luiz put Aston Villa in front after a rebound following a save from Alisson just four minutes in, as Liverpool scored two consecutive goals signed by Joel Matip and Sadio Mane in the 6 and 65 minutes of the match.
The win moved Liverpool level with City on 86 points in the standings, with a goal difference only behind leaders Man City, while Aston Villa came in 11th place with 43 points.
