Mexico eases past El Salvador to book spot at FIFA World Cup Qatar

Mexico booked its place in the 2022 World Cup on Wednesday night, beating El Salvador 2-0 during a CONCACAF Octagonal match to secure a spot in Qatar. The Mexicans did so with Carlos O’Reill Antona scoring in the 17th minute, and in the 43rd minute striker Raul Jimenez doubled from the penalty spot. The two attacking players set the result of the game that sent Mexico to the World Cup from second place in the North American home and is one place away from entering the top 1 of the draw tomorrow.
Mexico goals came in the first half of the encounter through Carlos Antona and Raul Jimenez, the Wolverhampton star, from a penalty kick in the 17th and 43rd minutes of the match.
Mexico finished the North American and Caribbean qualifiers in second place with 28 points, equal with Canada on goal difference with both teams, while El Salvador's tally stopped at 10 points in seventh and penultimate place.
