Jesus will decide Ronaldo's fate on Friday

All eyes are on Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese national team and star of Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr, as the squad announcement draws near for the upcoming matches against Denmark and Wales in the final round of the UEFA Nations League group stage. Portugal's coach, Jorge Jesus, is scheduled to announce the squad at a press conference on Friday afternoon at the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters in Oeiras. There is considerable anticipation surrounding Ronaldo's return to the national team after his absence from the last training camp due to a disagreement with the coach. According to the Portuguese Football Federation, the squad announcement will settle the debate regarding the participation of the 41-year-old captain in the next two matches. Portugal has already secured qualification for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Nations League but is preparing for its final two group stage matches: hosting Denmark on November 14 in Braga before traveling to Cardiff to face Wales on November 17. Ronaldo's return is generating significant interest, given his status as the world record holder for both international appearances and goals, having scored 146 goals in 234 matches for Portugal. The crisis began last September when Ronaldo left the national team camp in Copenhagen, Denmark, during preparations for a match against Denmark, following a strained relationship with the coach. Ronaldo started in the match against Wales, which Portugal won 1-0, but was not given a chance to play against Norway in Oslo, despite warming up for much of the second half. He appeared visibly angry after the final whistle and did not join his teammates in greeting the fans. The crisis escalated after Jorge Jesus's pre-match press conference, leading Ronaldo to leave the camp. In a written statement, he explained that his decision stemmed from the coach's repeated failure to honor his promises and his reneging on previous agreements. As a result, the Portuguese Football Federation's disciplinary committee suspended Ronaldo for 30 days and fined him €255. However, the suspension will end before the next two matches, meaning there is no disciplinary impediment to his return.
