CAF: Morocco to host Champions League final amid venue controversy

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday that the 2022 African Champions League final will take place in Morocco on 30 May, despite a request by Egyptian giants Al-Ahly to move the final to a neutral venue. In a press release posted on its website, the CAF revealed it received two bids to host the final. The first was from the Senegalese Football Federation, which was later withdrawn, and the second bid was from the Moroccan Football Federation. CAF added that the Senegalese Football Association withdrew its file, and therefore CAF is pleased to award the hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022 Final to Morocco. The date of the final is 30 May 2022,” read the CAF statement.

Al-Ahly FC thumps ES Setif to put one foot into CAF Champions League final

CAF Champions League holders Al-Ahly FC thumped ES Setif 4-0 on Saturday evening in the semifinal first leg match at At Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo. At the kick-off, Al-Ahly attacked hard and managed to score a goal in advance in the 3rd minute but the referee canceled it after referring to the “mouse” technique, which indicated the presence of a case of infiltration on Taher Muhammad Taher. South African striker Percy Tau scored for Al-Ahly in the 30th minute. Amir Karaoui was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Hussein El Shahat with 10 minutes of the first half. Then Taher Mohamed Taher added the second goal in the 54th minute, and Mohamed Sharif secured the third goal in the 72nd minute, then Percy Tau completed his brace Percy Tau added the fourth goal for Al-Ahly in the 90th minute.

In an official statement to CAF: Al-Ahly SC warns of an “inciter of sedition” prior their clash with Raja Casablanca

The Egyptian Al-Ahly SC club confirmed, in an official letter sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), that there are parties trying to inflame overcharging about all the factors surrounding the decisive clash against Moroccan Raja, next Friday, in the second leg of the African Champions League quarter-finals. Al-Ahly earns narrow win against Raja Casablanca in CAF Champions League 

Defending champions Egypt's Al-Ahly secured a 2-1 a difficult victory over Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals first-leg match at Al-Salam Wei Al-Ahly Stadium in Cairo on Saturday. It took 12 minutes for Al-Ahly to break the deadlock when El Solia beat goalkeeper Anas Zniti from the spot-kick to hand Al-Ahly a 1-0 lead after the hosts were awarded a penalty, while Hussein EL Shahaat wiped off though in the 23rd minute from inside the box after Tau’s inch perfect cross found his run inside the box. Pressure mounted on Raja, who conceded another penalty after Marouane Hadhoudi had committed a foul in the box and the defender was also sent off as the visitors were reduced to 10 players on the hour-mark, but El Solia missed the eventual penalty.

Arab teams’ players dominating CAF Champions’ League group stage best squad

All the clubs qualified for CAF Champions League quarter-finals 

The all clubs qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League was completed, after the Egyptian Al-Ahly club sends its name to the Champions League quarter-finals with a tough victory over Sudan’s Al Hilal in the group stages has sent title holders Al-Ahly to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals on Sunday, in the sixth and final round of the first group. Al-Ahly qualified for the quarter-finals and runners-up to the first group with 10 points, behind the leaders, the South African team Sun Downs with 16 points in the lead. The win now secured Al Ahly’s second place in Group A with 10 points and they will face one of Raja Casablanca, Espérance de Tunis, or Wydad Casablanca in the quarter-finals. The teams qualified for the CAF quarter-finals League are as follows: Mamelodi Sundowns & Al-Ahly (Group A), Raja Sportive, ES Setif (Group B), Esperance of Tunisia, CR Belouizdad (Group C), Wydad, Petro de Luanda (Group D). The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday, 5 April 2022 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, set to begin at 15:00 SA time.
