Benzema equals Messi’s Spanish Super Cup record

French forward Real Madrid Karim Benzema scored in the fifth consecutive match in the Spanish Super Cup, after he scored against Valencia in the current edition of the tournament held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Real Madrid booked their place in the Spanish Super Cup final Wednesday after eliminating Valencia 4-3 on penalties in Riyadh. In the semifinal match, Real Madrid drew first blood as French forward Karim Benzema scored from the penalty spot in the 39th minute at King Fahd Stadium. Benzema became the second player to score in 5 consecutive matches in the history of the Spanish Super Cup (5 goals) after Lionel Messi (8 goals in 5 consecutive games). Benzema left his scoring mark in 5 different versions of the Spanish Super Cup, which is a record in the history of the Royal Club: 2011 - 2017 - 2020 - 2021 - 2022. Benzema (35 years and 23 days) also became the second oldest scorer in the history of the Spanish Super Cup, after Luka Modric (36 years and 129 days).
