Arteta: We deserved to win Newcastle and we should have had two penalties

Arsenal’s Spanish coach, Mikel Arteta, praised his side after earning a draw against Newcastle United at the Emirates on Monday at the Emirates Stadium, in the 19th round of the English Premier League. Arteta said in the press conference after the end of the match “Extremely proud of my players. The way we played, the way we dominated the game, the way we tried, we continued, the way we controlled the game. “I think we lacked an extra touch or movement to finish these chances in this game. We lacked the finishing touch to threaten the Newcastle goal, but I think we had enough to win the game, I wanted to win but we should have done certain things better especially in the last third and we should have had two penalties.”  Arteta added. Mikel Arteta bemoaned two “scandalous” penalty decisions after Premier League leaders Arsenal missed the chance to move 10 points clear following a frustrating goalless draw with Newcastle. The Gunners dominated proceedings at a sold-out Emirates Stadium but were unable to break down the division’s stingiest defense as they dropped points at home for the first time this season. About the winter transfer market, Arteta said: “We are trying to improve the squad in every window. This is no different, we will do our best because we cannot waste any window with the squad numbers that we have so we shall try.”
